Is the price really fixed?
Yes. The price on your plan is the price you pay, unless the survey finds something that genuinely changes the job, like a roof that needs repair. If that happens, you can walk away. You only pay a deposit once the survey has confirmed the price.
Will someone visit my home?
Only if you want them to. You can buy entirely online, or book a Kilo adviser to visit. Advisers use the same quote engine and the same prices as the website.
Who installs the system?
Certified engineers from the Kilo partner network across the Midlands. Kilo holds the warranty and manages everything, so you deal with us from start to finish.
How do I pay?
£0 to book. A 25% deposit only after your survey confirms the price, refundable for 14 days. The balance when your system is switched on. Finance is not offered at launch.
How much do solar panels and a battery cost?
Kilo Home packages start at £8,495 installed for 8 panels and a battery, with Kilo Home at £10,995 for 12 panels and a 9.3 kWh battery. A battery on its own (Kilo Cell) is £5,995. Every price is on our packages page and fixed once your survey confirms it.
Is there VAT on solar panels and batteries?
No. Solar panels and home batteries fitted to homes have 0% VAT until 31 March 2027 (HMRC VAT Notice 708/6). Our prices already include it.
How long does solar take to pay back?
For a typical Midlands home, around 8 to 10 years on today’s prices, then the savings are yours. Try our business case calculator, or get a plan for your exact postcode and roof.
Do solar panels work in winter?
Yes, but they make much less. A Midlands system makes only around an eighth of its yearly power from November to February. Kilo OS fills your battery on cheap overnight power on dull days, so you still avoid peak prices.
What happens in a power cut?
Grid-tied systems switch off in a power cut for safety. Add the £450 backup option and your battery keeps essential circuits running.
What is Kilo OS?
The software inside the Kilo app. It connects to your solar, battery, charger and heat pump and runs them around the price of power, so you save more without thinking about it.
Which areas do you cover?
We are launching across the West and East Midlands, from Birmingham, Coventry and Leicester to Nottingham, Derby, Worcester, Stafford, Telford and Northampton. Outside these areas you can join the waitlist.
Do I need planning permission?
Most rooftop solar on houses in England is permitted development. Listed buildings, flats and conservation areas can need consent, and we check this before your survey.
What if my roof faces east and west?
East-west roofs still work well. They make a little less in total but spread generation across the morning and evening, when you are more likely to be home.
How long does install take?
Usually one to two days on site, including scaffolding.
Is a battery worth it without solar?
Often, yes. On a smart tariff the gap between off-peak and peak prices pays for the battery over time. Your plan shows the numbers for your home.
Where does it go?
Usually in a garage, utility room or on an outside wall near your consumer unit. The surveyor confirms the best spot.
How long does a battery last?
The FoxESS modules in Kilo Cell carry a 12-year manufacturer warranty.
Will it work with my car?
Yes. Every new electric and plug-in hybrid car sold in the UK uses the Type 2 connector our chargers use.
Do I need off-street parking?
Yes, for a home charger you need a driveway or garage where the cable can reach the car safely.
Can I add solar later?
Yes. Kilo Charge is the easiest first step, and the app shows what solar and a battery would save once your charger is in.
Will my house be warm enough?
Yes, if the system is designed properly. Your surveyor does a room-by-room heat loss calculation and sizes the pump and radiators to match.
Do I need new radiators?
Sometimes a few. The heat loss survey tells us exactly which rooms need a larger radiator.
Who gets the grant?
Homeowners in England and Wales replacing fossil fuel heating, with a valid EPC and an MCS-certified installer. We check eligibility before survey.
